About The Three Shires MFC |
![]() |
The Three Shires model flying club originally attained its name in 1978 from the three counties which surround it, namely Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Staffordshire, now known as Shropshire, West Midlands and Staffordshire. The club is run by selected member's who form a committee of seven, each with specified duties e.g. Treasurer, Secretary, Safety Officers, Noise Officers, and a P.R. Officer and a Web Administrator.
The object of the club is to train new members to fly radio control models and allow / guide existing members to diversify into other aspects of this sport. Existing members can offer advice on design, building, engines (glow / diesel / petrol), electric motors, batteries ( Nicd, Nimh, Lipo ), powered aircraft / gliders / helicopters. New members can be assisted by qualified club instructors to fly their own aircraft at no additional cost and this can lead to the BMFA 'A' certificate for flying model aircraft.
The club has 3 flying sites in the surrounding area where members can fly. There is no restriction on type of aircraft being flown on all sites (except on noise, close to built up areas, see individual site rules). Recent changes to the club rules made by the membership, now allow helicopters to fly on all sites but the club has only 1 qualified instructor at this time. We are hopeful this will change later on as more people take up this new challenge of flying.
Away from flying, the club has a very good social life and meet every Thursday (from 8pm onwards) at the club house (DK Rugby club), where any topic can be brought up for advice or general discussion.
The club is affiliated to the British Model Flying Association (B.M.F.A.) and abide by its recommendations on safety etc. Links to the B.M.F.A. and other interesting web sites can be found in our links page.
I hope you will find this site interesting and informative. There are links for new membership enquires or if you need to get in touch with me directly on the home page at the bottom. One last word from me...'keep safety in mind and enjoy all your types of flying'.
